Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt field trip

We will be meeting with Robert Henderson—the Docent Trainer at the Garden who will give us a tour and show us how to docent there. Art Wasserman will also hand out detailed written instructions.

Docenting at BGLM is a thrill. What a great way to enjoy three hours on a Saturday morning (10:00AM-1:00PM) surrounded by a wonderful collection of great bonsai trees. There are typically 60-70 visitors during our shift. Half of the visitors blow through the garden and the look on their face says, “I do not get it—what is with these little trees?” The more enlightened half is blown away, loves the trees are engaged and ask questions. Easy questions for any of you and it is fine to say, “Sorry, I do not know the answer as I am somewhat new to bonsai.”

Members of our club are encouraged to sign up to docent at the Garden. Even for those of you who join us on January 26, you will be accompanied by another member who has docented in the past, such as Ken Henry, who docented with Art and subsequently went by himself.

Our club’s shift is the 4th Saturday on each month from 10am to 1pm.
